Focus

Cancer testing is one of the most important growth opportunities in the diagnostic segment over the next five years. According to the National Cancer Institute, currently more than 1.5 million new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in 2011 in the U.S. In addition, millions of dollars are spent each day diagnosing and treating cancer, with direct medical cancer costs for 2006 exceeding $104 billion. Thus, it is important for healthcare practitioners to be efficient in their prognosis and treatment of cancer in order to effectively save lives and efficiently manage healthcare costs.

As the industry moves toward personalized medicine, it will become ever more important to determine patient prognosis – know what is happening inside the circulatory system before, during, and after treatment.

With the IVDxTx platform technology, physicians will be able to perform a real-time diagnosis of the patient’s circulating tumor cells (CTCs) without taking blood – this is a novel approach and will become a significant way to monitor CTCs with less patient anxiety, ease of use, and high sensitivity.

Benefits

Based on findings from our trials to date, our IVD CTC tests will empower physicians to:

  • Diagnose cancer more accurately and earlier
  • Monitor the effectiveness of ongoing treatment
  • Predict disease recurrence after treatment

Moreover, we believe that our platform addresses many of the limitations of currently available cancer diagnostic and research methods and provides physicians and patients with additional benefits:

  • Improve the cost-effectiveness of cancer therapy
  • Provide a treatment option for isolation and eradication of CTCs
  • Improve patient outcomes, including quality of life, time to disease progression, and survival
